Rob’s Research

Rob is a doctoral candidate in the University of Oregon’s Department of Comparative Literature whose research centers on the formal and informal exchanges between French and Chinese literati during the final decades of the Qing Dynasty (1880-1912). His current project takes a close look at the conscious alterations in several texts translated between French and Chinese, and inquires into how such changes were meant to bring about specific social change. Rob’s previous work, completed in the master’s program at Nankai University (南开大学) between 2009 and 2012, dealt with the ways Hai Zi (海子), a renowned contemporary Chinese poet, adapted Biblical imagery for his long-form epic The Seven Books of the Sun (太阳七部书). page:
